Addressing the inter-personal sensory perception amongst autistic individuals, Veil embodies the sense of overstimulation which burdens the neurodiverse on a daily basis. Veil externalises what is manifested internally; an invisible disability becomes visible. This audio-visual installation speaks on the rise of stigma and prejudice towards the autistic community, as a swarm of misinformation and ignorance cripples us, defaming us as a disruption to a neurotypically-moulded society. Amongst the eugenics and need for a “cure”, Veil aims to reshape the public’s perspective as we hope to be viewed as human, not pawns to conspiracy.
Through the application of cymatics – or visible sound – the geometric patterns conform to frequencies, acting as a conduit for brain functionality. The fragility of the water moves in compliance with environmental stimulants, concurrently producing an unsettling space that emphasises the obscurity of neurodiverse sensory reception. The infrequent movements caused by sound interference manipulate the visuals, translating them into mirage-like forms. In doing so, visitors will be presented with an almost nonsensical depiction of neurodiverse reactivity. With the use of a live camera feed, real-time footage brings a sense of unpredictability to the installation as we acknowledge the existence of autistic people in a constantly changing world.

Forced to conform to a complicated world, A Figure of Eight embraces the abnormality of the neurodivergent experience. From the scope of an autistic artist, Childs investigates the complexity of sensory interaction, and its impact on one’s well-being. What is invisible to the naked eye is unveiled through self-documentation.
A Figure of Eight directly proposes a first-hand perspective, within a visual diary format. Childs revisits spaces which parallel in comfortability, and dialogues. Life prior diagnosis is discussed as he questions his identity throughout childhood. A Figure of Eight addresses a stigmatised condition, by presenting it to the foreground in an intimate manner.

A video collage of live CCTV feeds, based in locations where surveillance is prioritised. These videos were found across video-platforming sites, raising the concern on the accessibility of surveillance systems amongst the public.

Considering the origins of artefacts confined within the space, Traces discusses the intersection between time and societal adaptation amongst a constantly evolving environment. By utilising modern, technological mediums, a juxtaposition between methodologies is established - traditional and contemporary.
Traces proposes an unfamiliar perspective, as it observes a world conforming to generational change. This collection of visual outcomes, using satellite imagery as its tool, serves the purpose of interrogating modernisation within a space flourishing with remains of the past, in a city where history is at its core.

A spontaneous meeting between myself and an anonymously archived piece of imagery sparked my curiosity. Centred in the foreground was an abnormally shaped root structure. On the back read "THE" Root, Mourradans to Paris via Antwerp and Brush”, suggesting the creator’s documented journey. Its style reminded that of Mary Dillwyn, in the sense of transforming an organic entity into the subject. The natural essence of the photo’s character was reminiscent of the earliest photographic methodologies; cyanotype is what I chose, due to its association with Atkins’ pioneering of botanical documentation.
Considering early photographic processes and its relationship with the natural environment, “ROOT” via Penllergare” documents the embedded history of Valley Woods through capturing the organic structures that surround the woodland atmosphere. The narrative established between the individual prints imitates the evolutionary life cycle, depicting a bond between nature and humanity. The concept of time questions the journey (route) of the subjects' life, transcending from prosperous to decay. The focal points of each print breathes despite their isolated state, acting as conduits for respiration, due to the sunlight-dependant process mocking photosynthesis.
